Precautions for Generator Set Rooms – A Guide from the Manufacturer

Generator sets play a vital role across various industries and have become essential in daily life. Therefore, the layout of the generator room is equally important.

1. Ensure proper ventilation at the installation site. The air intake at the generator end and the air outlet at the diesel engine end must allow for smooth airflow. The area of the engine’s exhaust outlet should be at least 1.5 times larger than the radiator area to prevent insufficient cooling. In enclosed environments, forced ventilation using fans is mandatory. Generator sets are typically equipped with high-temperature alarms. Poor exhaust ventilation will trigger high-temperature protection and cause a shutdown.

2. Maintain a clean surrounding area. Avoid placing items that produce acidic, alkaline, or other corrosive gases or vapors nearby. If possible, equip the room with fire extinguishing devices.

3. For indoor use, the exhaust pipe must extend outdoors. The pipe diameter must be larger than that of the silencer’s outlet pipe. The pipeline should be tilted downward by 5-10 degrees to prevent rainwater ingress and pipe corrosion. If the exhaust pipe is installed vertically upward, a rain cap must be added. (Note: It is recommended to use no more than three elbows in the entire exhaust pipeline to ensure smooth exhaust flow.)

4. For fixed concrete foundations, use a level gauge during installation to ensure the foundation is perfectly horizontal, securing the generator set in a level position. Raising the foundation base can help isolate vibration transmission to the ground. If the floor is concrete and the room is far from office areas, and the generator set has built-in vibration dampers, ensuring a flat surface is generally sufficient.

5. The generator set frame must have a reliable protective earth (grounding) connection. Of course, when planning the generator room layout, it is crucial to understand the basic structure of the specific generator set model, as the locations of air intakes and exhaust outlets vary among different units.
